Looking for your own thing? Come along campaign invites young people to take part in low-cost and free activities

The City of Tampere is once again campaigning for young people to get active and find their own thing. The aim is to highlight Tampere's diverse, affordable and often even free hobby opportunities, where everyone is welcome to be themselves. Clubs and associations have also been invited to be part of the campaign.

The main target group of the Come along campaign is young people aged 13-17 who have not yet found their own thing or a suitable hobby. The campaign, which highlights low-cost and even free sporting and cultural activities, will be widely visible on social media, on digital screens around the city, in schools, leisure facilities and in various shopping centres from 6 August to 7 September 2025.

Last year's campaign, which was held for the first time, attracted widespread visibility and thousands of visitors to the Come along website.

– It is vital that every child and young person has access to their own community and to activities they enjoy. The City of Tampere and its many clubs and associations offer many low-threshold activities that are easy to join just as you are, says Mayor Ilmari Nurminen.

This year's campaign is being run in Finnish, English, Arabic and Ukrainian.

– The campaign is strongly linked to the City of Tampere's strategy, the well-being development programme and the Mayor's programme. We want to send a message not only to young people but also to their carers that Tampere is full of inspiring and affordable things to do. This year we are campaigning in many different languages to reach more young people looking for a hobby, tells Aino Penttilä, Communications Manager.

Clubs and associations do important work with young people

The City of Tampere's sports and cultural services and youth centres offer a wide range of activities, but clubs and associations also play an important role in helping young people to get involved.

– We warmly welcome sports clubs, cultural associations and other communities to the Come along campaign, as they do the practical and often voluntary work that gets children and young people active, says Jukka Etu-Seppälä, Director of Sports and Youth.

In addition, music and games rooms in libraries, courses at the Workers' College, and exhibitions in museums and the Culture House Laikku are great ways to get involved in cultural activities, alone or in a group.

– We have gathered a wide range of information on the Come along website, but young people are sure to find something fun to do, for example through our weekly 52 times culture tips on the city's social media, tells Sampo Terho, Director of Culture.

It's easy to take part in the campaign

It is easy for different communities to participate in the campaign, for example by entering an event for young people in the City of Tampere's events and activities calendar and selecting the category "Come along".

You can also participate in the campaign on social media by producing appropriate materials. All content shared on social media in support of the campaign with the tags #TuuMukaan, #ComeAlong and #Tampere will be uploaded to the campaign website. The City of Tampere will reward the most active communities in social media with surprise prizes after the campaign ends.
