One of the highlights of the Moomin 80th Anniversary in Tampere is the Grand Birthday Celebration at Tampere Hall. On Saturday, August 9, the festivities will begin with the garlanding of the Moomin statue with a floral headband in Sorsapuisto Park at 11:45 a.m. After the floral crowning, Tampere Hall will host a wide range of fun activities, especially for families with children.
The program includes an animation marathon, music, dancing, a Moomin Meet & Greet, and coffee and cake for 1,000 guests. Admission to this event, produced by Tampere Hall, is free. However, few activities require a separate ticket.
The world's only Moomin Museum, located in Tampere Hall, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the day. Children under the age of 7 always enjoy free admission to the museum, and on this special day, all other visitors can enter for a reduced price of €4. Guided tours of the Moominhouse exhibition for children will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Visitors can also sculpt miniature Moominhouses at the museum's Studio.
Big Emotions Await at the 6 p.m. Sorsapuisto Park Concert
The evening concert marks the beginning of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra's 95th anniversary season, introducing the season's themes of big emotions and musical love stories.
The concert opens with Skylines, a fanfare by Sebastian Fagerlund, the thematic composer for the 2025/26 season. Erna Tauro's Höstvisa, with lyrics by Tove Jansson, will also be performed in the spirit of the Moomins. Well-known opera and ballet melodies will bring musical love stories to life.
The concert will last approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. It is advisable to arrive in good time, preferably on foot, by bike, or by public transport. DJ Juissi will set the mood in the park from 3 p.m. onwards.
As the event is expected to attract thousands of people, we recommend arriving on foot, by bike, or by public transport.
