In the summer, the area’s delicious refreshments and art are provided by Coffee Chamber. Runeberg’s cottage, managed by Interi ry, is filled with wonderful handicrafts and changing exhibitions in an atmospheric setting.

Theater has a long tradition in the area, as the traditional Haihara Puppet Theater was established in 1969 in the former Kanala, and Theater Lysti brings diverse performances to the outdoor stage located behind the Makasiini.

Runeberg’s cottage was originally built on the Ylinen estate. It got its name from the national poet, who lived in the cottage with his wife Fredrika during the summer of 1834. After the establishment of the Haihara Puppet Museum, the building was moved to its current location as part of the art center.

During the summer and before Christmas, the cottage houses the art and craft shop of the Tampere Art and Craft Association Interi ry. Products from local artisans are sold, and art exhibitions are also displayed.

Coffee Chamber is located in Väentupa, built in 1811. During the summer, the café has outdoor terrace seating where you can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air with pastries or ice cream. The offerings at Coffee Chamber are mainly homemade sweet and savoury pastries. Gluten-free products are also available. You can enjoy beer, wine, or other refreshments with your food.

Teatteri Lysti is an amateur-based theater founded in 2003, operating in Hervanta, Tampere. In addition to summer theater, the repertoire includes authentic and entertaining performances and plays. The theater participates in local cultural events and does commissioned performances.

The theatre is Finland’s oldest continuously operating puppet theatre. Since 1995, it has been led by Terhi Viljanen.

Haihara Puppet Theatre produces one to two premieres each year, with performances for both children and adults. The theatre team also plans and delivers art workshops and various cultural events, such as the Children’s Night of the Arts held in early August. Over the years, Haihara Puppet Theatre has become a meeting place for both enthusiasts and professionals of the art form.

The next premiere will take place on 29 August 2026 at 7:00 PM. The production, MIELIALAKUVIA – Stämningsbilder, is based on poems by Gunvor Grahn. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
