All areas of West Tampere were annexed to Tampere from North Pirkkala (from 1938 Nokia) in 1937. More detailed information by district below.

Lielahti

The settlement of Lielahti, soon to be connected by tramway, is mentioned in the land register of 1540 and in the 1550s there were 17 farms in the area. The Tollet family owned the land in the 1700s. They passed to the Stjernvall family and then in 1872 to Wilhelm von Nottbeck, who retained them until 1904. There is a burial place of the Nottbeck family on the site. The Lielahti neo-Gothic manor was founded in 1893 and is now owned by the City of Tampere. The pulp mill was established in 1913 and closed in 2007, the lignin mill closed in 2008. The railway station in Lielahti was added in 1927 and is a nationally important conservation site.
The main building of Niemi Manor dates back to 1861, but the manor house probably dates back to the 1700s. The impressive barn building was built in 1917 and is protected.

Rahola

First mentioned in 1540 in a land register. Rahola farm became a equestrian farm (in Finnish: rustholli) in the 1690s, the main building and the bower building of the farm date from 1796.

Tohloppi

Mentioned in documents as early as 1466. Tohloppi TV centre, now Mediapolis, is located in Ristimäki.

First mentioned in the 1500s.

Villilä

Possibly mentioned in documents as early as 1442, at the latest in the 1700s.

Hyhky

In documents as early as 1433. In the 1500s, a court was held in Hyhky.

Epilä

Mentioned in 1540 in a land deed (Heikki Epi's farm).

Kaarila

Mentioned in 1540 in a land register.

Pispala

First mentioned in 1492. The house of Pispa was named because it had the duty to accommodate the bishop when he was travelling in the area. Pispala became a rural municipality in 1912 and was annexed to Tampere in 1937. Rajaportti was the gate between Tampere and Pispala (North Pirkkala) on the Pispala highway, as there was a rocky cattle fence between Pispala and Tampere. Pispala received its first zoning plan in 1945.
