School transportation criteria

A school transport benefit may be granted to Tampere residents who are pre-primary education pupils in City of Tampere schools for whom the school transport prerequisites are met. The Education and Culture Committee has decided on these criteria on 19 March 2020.

Summary of prerequisites for school transport to a pre-primary education venue assigned by the city:

  • Journey of more than 3 km (preschool, grades 1-2)
  • Based on the difficulty, arduousness, or dangerousness of the journey. (Requires evidence, e.g. a statement from the student welfare services)
  • Health reasons (statement from the student welfare services or a medical certificate)

You may read the school transport benefit criteria in whole here:

The city pays for school transport, primarily by means of public transit. If public transit is not available or not usable by the child for health reasons, the city will organize a separate means of transportation on demand.

The decision on the school transport benefit is to be made by the service managers for pre-primary education.
