The City of Tampere has distributed Summer Job Vouchers worth 320 euros over four different summers. This year, 747 Tampere-based young people under the age of 18 were able to get a summer job with the voucher. That’s 210 more young people employed than last year.
The number of employers offering summer jobs has also increased compared to the previous year. This year, there were 435 participating employers, which is 145 more than last year. One employer was able to hire up to six young people with the Summer Job Voucher.
– It has been a pleasure to see the number of vouchers granted and participating employers grow year after year, says Petri Räsänen, the Summer Job Voucher Coordinator for the City of Tampere.
Most young people find a Summer Job Voucher position thanks to their own initiative. The majority of employers say they found their Summer Job Voucher employee because the young person contacted them directly.
The Summer Job Voucher influences the decision to hire a young person
Feedback collected from employers highlights the impact of the Summer Job Voucher on their decision to hire a young person for a summer job. Most employers report that they would not have hired a young person without the voucher.
In the feedback, the Summer Job Voucher is described as an excellent incentive for employers to hire young people. Employers also value the opportunity to provide young people with their first work experiences, even if it means a bit more work for the company than usual. The application process is considered easy and clear, and the quality of customer service is rated highly. Employers also feel that there is enough information available about the Summer Job Voucher.
– The Summer Job Voucher plays a significant societal role in promoting youth employment. We will continue to develop the voucher and support youth employment in close cooperation with various partners, with the same determined approach, says Petri Räsänen.
