Waste charges

Waste charge and its determination

Every residential building and holiday home must join the municipal waste management system. Waste management is organised by Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto.

The costs of waste management are covered by waste charges, which are determined by the waste tariffs approved by the Regional Waste Management Committee.

Waste charges cover the costs of collecting, transporting and treating waste. The basic charges cover services provided to all residents, such as waste information and advice, the collection of hazardous residential waste, the maintenance of waste stations and ecopoints, and the operation of the waste management authority.

The waste charge is a public-law charge which is enforceable without court judgment.

Waste tariffs in 2025

In December 2024, the Regional Waste Management Committee approved waste tariffs, which came into effect on January 1, 2025.

For the a local automated vacuum waste collection system, the tariff that came into effect on January 1, 2024, will apply.
