What kind of park is it?
Liisanpuisto Park, together with Kaleva Church and the rest of the building stock, is part of Kaleva’s nationally designated cultural heritage resources. From a park history perspective, Liisanpuisto Park represents a rolling landscape park typical of its era, and in terms of maintenance classification, it is a valuable green area. The area surrounding Kaleva Church is a site of exceptional historical value.
During the years 2024–2026, a sun-exposed meadow was established on the east side of the church using seeds from native plants collected locally in the Kaleva area that are suitable for the site. The meadow will take several years to develop, and after sowing, it will require intensive care for several years while enclosed by temporary protective fences.

The First Poem (Kalevala Monument)
The bronze monument in front of Kaleva Church was designed by Terho Sarkki and unveiled in 1973. His inspiration for the sculpture was the creation myth in the Kalevala, in which the world is born from the fragments of a broken waterfowl's egg.
