Pentti Kaskipuro (1930–2010) was a pioneer and a significant figure in the world of Finnish graphic art. He was a self-taught artist and a highly regarded teacher. Throughout his lengthy career, he developed a distinctive style, combining everyday subjects with precise mastery of graphic techniques. He began his career with portraits and landscapes, before focusing on still lifes. He is particularly renowned for his monochrome works, which draw attention to minute details and the precise handling of light and shadow.
This publication provides a comprehensive overview of his graphic art from the 1950s to the early 2000s. The book includes two expert articles that shed new light on the artist's work. In his article, Erkki Anttonen (PhD, Docent of Art History at the University of Helsinki) provides an in-depth analysis of Kaskipuro's graphic art. Anttonen delves into the technical and thematic development of the artist's work. In her article, Päivi Loimaala, FL, former director of the art museum, discusses the concept of silence in Kaskipuro's art and its presence in still life themes throughout art history.This richly illustrated publication showcases Kaskipuro's most important works and themes. Photographer Katri Krohn Lassila provides descriptions of the artworks. It also includes an extensive illustrated catalogue of Kaskipuro's graphic works from 1952 to 2009, as well as the artist's CV. This catalogue raisonné has been compiled from the Sara Hildén Foundation's collection of Pentti Kaskipuro's graphic works and covers the artist's entire output. Containing information on almost 700 works, the catalogue serves as a reference work for Kaskipuro's graphic art. The book was printed in Germany by Offsetdruckerei Karl Grammlich GmbH, specialists in high-quality black-and-white printing techniques.
