The City Council selected key political figures at the beginning of its term: Mayor of Tampere and Deputy Mayors were elected
Ilmari Nurminen (SDP) was elected as the Mayor of Tampere. Jaakko Mustakallio (Greens) was elected Deputy Mayor of committees operating under Economic Development, Competence and Real Estate Services, Anne-Mari Jussila (Coalition Party) Deputy Mayor committees operating under of Education and Culture Services, and Ilkka Porttikivi (SDP) Deputy Mayor of committees operating under Urban Environment and Infrastructure Services.
Kalervo Kummola (Coalition Party) was appointed Chair of the City Council, Sofia Julin (SDP) First Vice-Chair, Julia Sangervo (Greens) Second Vice-Chair, and Minna Minkkinen (Left Alliance) Third Vice-Chair.
Hanna-Maria Grann (SDP), Kirsi Kaivonen (SDP), Kalle Kallio (SDP), Johanna Loukaskorpi (SDP, 2nd Vice-Chair), Tommi Evilä (Coalition Party), Elina Järvenpää (Coalition Party), Iida Leino (Coalition Party), Jocka Träsbäck (Coalition Party, 1st Vice-Chair), Perttu Jussila (Greens, 3rd Vice-Chair), Vilma Järvisalo (Greens), Mitja Tapio (Left Alliance) and Vilhartti Hanhilahti (Centre) were selected members of the City Board. The City Board will be chaired by Mayor Ilmari Nurminen.
The City Council also elected members for a two-year term in the Competence and Economic Development Committee, the Housing and Real Estate Committee, the Education Committee, the Culture and Leisure Committee, the City Planning and Infrastructure Services Committee and the Regional Public Transport Committee.
Members were appointed for a four-year term to the Regional Waste Management Board, the Auditing Board, the Central Election Committee and the Sara Hildén Art Museum Board.
The City Board will decide on the members of the Group Division at the City Board meetings on 9 June and 16 June 2025. Decisions on the appointment of the Regional Environmental Health Division and the Environment and Building Division under the City Planning and Infrastructure Services Committee will be made on 10 June. The members of the Employment Division of the Competence and Economic Development Committee will be appointed on 18 June 2025.
The new Mayor’s Programme for 2025–2029 will be submitted to the City Council’s next meeting on 16 June 2025.
123,025 votes were cast in Tampere during this April’s municipal elections to elect 67 members to the City Council. In accordance with the election results, 20 SDP candidates became members in the new City Council. The City Council also received 17 members from the National Coalition Party, 12 from the Greens, 8 from the Left Alliance, 4 from the Finns Party, 3 from the Centre Party, 2 from the Christian Democrats and 1 from the Swedish People’s Party. 56.8 percent of eligible voters cast their vote, meaning that voter turnout remained exactly the same as in the previous municipal elections.
