Participating in teaching

Students are required to participate in teaching. This includes other activities of the institution (events, theme days, excursions, etc.) are also considered as teaching.

Attendance at the first lesson of a study module is essential. Any absence must be reported to the teacher of the module. This is important, because at the beginning of the course, the student will be informed of the criteria for assessment and grading and the minimum requirements for meeting the assessment criteria.

Lessons will start according to the timetable and tardiness will always be recorded in Wilma.

Application for absence

Acceptable reasons for absences include illness or a temporary exemption.

Leave of absence may be granted

  • A subject teacher may grant absence permission for a single lesson
  • A form teacher for 1-5 days
  • The assistant principal for 6 to 30 days
  • for a period exceeding this period is handled by the principal

Absence requests must be submitted using the form available in Wilma. Planned absences must be informed in advance to the teacher and arrangements for completing the study module must be made with the teacher.

Absences are generally not approved during the final period.

It is the student's responsibility to check Wilma for homework and other assignments during the period of absence. A reliable explanation of the absence is required. This can be provided by a guardian, a nurse or a doctor, for example. Absences are reported through Wilma.

Possible effects of absences

If you are absent due to illness for more than three days, you should inform the form teacher. Frequent absences may lead to interruption of the study module. Frequent absences and tardiness will have a negative impact on the course grade.

If a student has a high number of tardies or absences in several subjects, the form teacher will discuss the reasons for the absences with the student and, if necessary, with the guardian. The guidance counsellor and/or the principal may also be involved in the discussion. If the absences continue after this, the student may be required to provide a medical certificate or equivalent document for all absences instead of the guardian's or the adult student's own absence report.

Illness notification during the final week

If the student falls ill suddenly during the final week, they should inform the exam teacher and the form teacher via Wilma message at the latest on the morning of the exam. Absences should always be cleared as soon as possible, especially during the final week to ensure the student's right to take the exam on the retake day.
