Tampere Pulse
Tampere aims to create new services based on data for local businesses. A recent example of a data-driven service is the Tampere Pulse, which predicts visitor flows in the city center. This service is available in the Tampere Finland app. The system collects data from downtown traffic cameras and weather forecasts, considering factors such as weekdays, holidays, and events at Nokia Arena. Visitor flow predictions for the next month are generated from the collected data. The Pulse application assists businesses in the city center by preparing for events, such as managing increased demand, ensuring an adequate workforce, and adjusting opening hours.
Tampere Pulse is also available as a web version, which offers a more detailed map view compared to the mobile app. You can access the web version here.
Tampere's Pulse attracts international interest
The Pulse app caught interest at the Smart City Expo & World Congress in Barcelona, where Tampere won the award for enabling technologies. Pulse served as an example in Tampere's competitive presentation, highlighting the city's use of data and smart technologies for the benefit of businesses and residents. The replicability of the Pulse service is generating interest.
