General Upper Secondary School

A Solid Route to Academic Success

Teaching at Pyynikin lukio Upper Secondary School is modern, versatile, and student-centered. We make use of digital tools, prepare students for digital matriculation exams, and take learning beyond the classroom with visits to places such Olkiluoto nuclear power plant and Turku Castle.

We are strongly committed to supporting and guiding our students. Each student is supported by their homeroom teacher, study counselor, special education teacher, subject teachers, and student welfare professionals such as school social workers, a psychologist, and a school nurse.

International Opportunities

As an Erasmus-accredited school, Pyynikin lukio provides excellent opportunities for exchanges, study trips, and international projects. Students can join group visits or spend a longer exchange period abroad. We also host two international study programmes and celebrate cultural diversity at home.

Active and Diverse Experiences

Our study units include trips such as a winter sports course in Åre or a European performance tour for music students. As an Active School, we promote daily physical activity, which supports both well-being and learning. A wide range of sports courses—from ball games to dance and hiking—are available.

Languages, Arts, and Sciences

In addition to English and Swedish, our students can study Spanish, French, German, Russian or Finnish as a second language. Thanks to our specific educational programme in music and musical theatre, we offer a wide range of courses in music, theatre, and music technology. In natural sciences, learning is hands-on, supported by technology, experiments, and expert visits that connect knowledge to real life.
