Welcome to Pyynikin lukio Upper Secondary School!

Pyynikin lukio Upper Secondary School is a diverse and high-quality general upper secondary school that provides an excellent foundation to succeed in the Finnish matriculation examination as well as in further studies. In addition to top-level general education, the school offers a Specific Educational Programme in Music and Musical Theatre, providing students with unique opportunities to explore music through practical studies in well-equipped facilities such as a recording studio and dedicated rehearsal spaces. The school also runs a Bilingual Study Programme, where studies are conducted in both Finnish and English.

Pyynikin lukio is known for its warm, supportive, and down-to-earth learning environment, where each student is valued as an individual and never lost in the crowd. With around 530 students, the school offers a safe and welcoming  atmosphere, ensuring personalized guidance, peer support, and attentive counseling forstudy planning. Our dedicated teachers not only deliver academic excellence but also help students cultivate self-awareness, responsibility, and essential life skills.

The daily school life is vibrant and full of opportunities. Concerts, musicals, and a variety of cultural events add xtra color to everyday life, while subjects such as physical education, mathematics, natural sciences, and environmental studies offer a rich and varied curriculum. Pyynikin lukio is also Erasmus+ accredited, enabling students to participate in international projects, student exchanges, and trips.

Until July 31, 2025, the school operated under the name Hatanpään lukio Upper Secondary School in the Rantaperkiö area of Tampere. During the 2025–2026 academic year, the school will relocate to Pyynikki, right next to the city center, and nearby the tram line. The historic school building at Pyynikintie 2 has been fully renovated — with student wishes carefully taken into account!
