Specific Educational Programme in Music and Musical Theatre

Pyynikin lukio Upper Secondary School offers a nationally recognised specific educational programme in music and musical theatre. Admission to this programme is based on an audition held in April–May. Students are selected based on a combination of their audition scores and the average grades of academic subjects from their comprehensive school final report.

Students in the programme complete six compulsory study units in music and musical theatre, along with at least six elective study units to qualify for study unit exemptions. Under certain conditions, a student can skip for up to eight compulsory study units in other subjects.

The curriculum provides a broad range of study units, including singing, bands and orchestra, music technology, theatrical expression, dance, and creative writing. Students take part in numerous concerts, musicals, and projects both within the school and with external partners. The school collaborates extensively with professional theatres and other organisations connected to music and theatre.

Starting in 2029, students will have the option to include music as one of their matriculation exam subjects.

The programme enriches the school community, allowing students to develop their musical and expressive skills from their own starting points and apply these skills in various professional contexts. The language of instruction for the music and musical theatre programme is Finnish, and all related materials are available only in Finnish.
