What kind of park is it?

Located in the stream valley (Vuohenoja) between the Takahuhti and Ruotula districts, Varsanpuisto consists largely of former farmland and includes walking and cycling routes. The park has an allotment garden area and is otherwise actively used for recreation year-round. The area has been maintained as meadow habitat, and in the eastern part also as a landscape field.

The Varsanpuisto Park and Huhmarpelto areas have been renewed by constructing flood meadows. These help prepare for increased rainfall due to climate change and prevent flooding downstream. They also enhance biodiversity, help control invasive species, and make the area more pleasant for users. In 2025, plants such as yellow iris, water mint and marsh marigold were planted in the flood meadows. Additional planting and seeding will be carried out in 2026 as needed.

Vuohenoja stream has also been restored within the park area by building spawning grounds to support trout reproduction.
