Renovation and extension of the City Hall, formerly the Central Office Building
Tampere Service Point will move into the street-level floor during the spring and summer of 2026. A restaurant and café will also begin operating there. The floor will be open to the public. The street level also provides access to the Conference centre on the second floor. The Council hall remains on the fifth floor.
The City Hall is a building of architectural and historical value, which is protected in the city plan. The main objectives of the construction were the safety and healthiness of all premises, as well as responsibility and sustainable development.
The building has accessible and clear passageways. The most energy-efficient systems and equipment possible have been selected for the building. The premises have been designed to be multi-purpose and adaptable so that they can be modified in the future as needed.
The total cost of the construction project was 49 million euros. Tampereen Tilapalvelut acted as the developer and YIT Rakennus Oy as the project management contractor.
During construction the working environment and operating culture of the City Hall will be updated
The project to develop the working environment of the City Hall and the Frenckell building will be carried out between 30 January 2023 and 31 December 2026. The working environment and operating culture of the new building will be updated during the project to meet future needs.
The new City Hall will serve as an office for approximately 950 employees. The current combination of remote and on-site work makes it possible for the City Hall to have workstations for 62 percent of the people working in the building.
During the temporary relocation the project's activities at Frenckell building have focused on supporting work and gathering experiences. The goal of the project is to successfully develop the working environment and work culture so that the new City Hall and its operating culture support success at work and well-being at work. Another goal is to achieve financial savings.
