Kaupinlaakso
The area is complemented by the local services of the North-Eastern Centre in Linnainmaa, such as health services, grocery stores and sports facilities. The Kauppi campus area, adjacent to the new Kaupinlaakso district, is home to the Tampere University Hospital (TAYS), the Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) and the teaching and research facilities of the University of Tampere.
The area also offers many recreational opportunities. In addition to the tennis centre, the area is home to the extensive recreational and nature areas of Kauppi-Niihama, as well as ski trails and walking paths. There is also a Frisbee golf centre and an equestrian centre nearby. A second sports hall will be built next to the tennis centre. The jewel in the crown of the Kaupinlaakso district is the National Urban Park planned for the north of the area, in the Kauppi-Niihama recreation and urban forest areas.
The Kaupinlaakso district was named in 2024 during the planning process. In the draft phase, the Kaupinlaakso I area was called Medi-Park. In the earlier phase, the Kaupinlaakso II was called the West side of Lake Alasjärvi.

Sustainable mobility supports climate objectives
The tram line to Linnainmaa is planned to run through Kaupinlaakso, so the new district will have good public transport connections, reducing the need for cars for those moving to the area. The tram line and cycle routes will provide sustainable transport options to both the city centre and Linnainmaa. With the extension of the tram line, it will take about 16 minutes to reach the Central Square - the distance from the Central Square to the centre of Kaupinlaakso is around 5 kilometres. This will make Kaupinlaakso an attractive place to live for students and workers alike.
In Tampere, land use planning is concentrated in the city centre, regional centres and along the main public transport routes, i.e. in the sustainable growth zone defined in the Master Plan, where Kaupinlaakso is also located.
The Central Park in Kaupinlaakso safeguards biodiversity
A particular attraction and identity of the Kaupinlaakso district is the extensive Kaupinlaakso Central Park and its rainwater park, which form an urban green space at the centre of the district, encompassing a range of activities and creating a sense of community in the residential area. In addition, the rainwater park's abundant water features help balance the temperature variations in the area and prevent the heat island effect. The park will also have good green and water connections to ensure biodiversity and the natural movement of animals from one area to another. The overall appearance of the commercial valley will be greener, for example by planting a large number of trees along the boulevard that runs through the area.
