Results of the Tampere municipal elections confirmed – voter turnout over 70% in three areas
In accordance with the election results, 20 SDP candidates became members in the new City Council. The City Council also received 17 members from the National Coalition Party, 12 from the Greens, 8 from the Left Alliance, 4 from the Finns Party, 3 from the Centre Party, 2 from the Christian Democrats and 1 from the Swedish People's Party. The City Council has 67 members in total.
Among the candidates in Tampere, the highest number of votes were given to Mayor candidates Ilmari Nurminen (SDP, 7217 votes), Kalervo Kummola (National Coalition Party, 5715 votes) and Joakim Vigelius (Finns Party, 3162 votes). The fourth largest number votes were given to Julia Sangervo (Greens, 3076 votes).
The average age of members in the new City Council is 44.
Voter turnout remained 56.8%, unchanged from the previous elections
A total of 123,025 votes were cast in the Tampere municipal elections. Of these, 72,337 (33.4%) were advance votes. 56.8% of eligible voters cast their vote, meaning that voter turnout remained exactly the same as in the previous municipal elections.
Three polling districts reached a voter turnout of over 70%. Pispala had a voter turnout of 71.9%, Saukonpuisto had a voter turnout of 70.7%, and Pyynikki had a voter turnout of 70.1%.
Recount of the two elections began on Monday morning, and the final election results were confirmed on Wednesday. A total of 131 people were needed to count the results of the double election. For comparison, only 75 people were employed to count the votes in the 2021 municipal elections.
There were more rejected votes nationwide than before: 1.6% of all votes in the Tampere municipal elections and 3.5% of all votes in the county elections of the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa were rejected. There were many reasons for the rejections, such as votes for county election candidates being cast in the municipal elections and vice versa.
Residents of Tampere cast 120,571 votes in the county elections, which were held simultaneously with the municipal elections. 55.6% of all eligible voters cast their vote. The county elections determined the 79 regional councillors of the Wellbeing services county of Pirkanmaa.
Current decision-making bodies end their term on 31 May
The term of the current City Council, City Board and other decision-making bodies will end on 31 May. The City Council will elect its chair, vice chairs and various other positions in its meeting on 2 June. The City Board will elect the members of the Group Division and various other positions in its meetings on 9 June and 16 June.
Training will be organised for the elected officials at the beginning of the new council term.
