International visitors at the Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region
Page content in brief
The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region is a Finnish adult education institution providing liberal adult education and basic education in the arts. Each year, more than 32,000 students take part in courses across a wide range of subjects.
The Centre is maintained by the City of Tampere, the third largest city in Finland, a major cultural and sports hub, the regional capital of Pirkanmaa, and the largest inland city in the Nordic countries.
We warmly welcome international cooperation and visitors. The Adult Education Centre holds an Erasmus+ accreditation.
Visiting the Adult Education Centre
Courses at the Centre are mainly organised from early September to mid-April. If you are interested in teaching, the best time to visit is during the academic year, when activities are in full swing. Teaching takes place from morning to evening, including weekends.
Visits are also possible at other times of the year, especially if your interest lies in areas other than teaching.
Weeks 9 and 42 are holiday weeks, and the Centre is closed in July.
If you are interested in a study visit or project cooperation, please contact our coordinator responsible for international visits. The contact details can be found on this page.

A Pioneer since 1899
Founded in 1899, the Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region is the oldest adult education centre in Finland and one of the largest in the country. The Centre employs around 30 full-time staff and approximately 400 hourly-paid teachers.
Each year, the Centre organises over 2,000 courses at around 70 locations, reaching more than 15,500 individual students and over 32,000 course participants in total in Tampere, Ylöjärvi and online. In addition to liberal adult education, we also provide basic education in the arts. The Sara Hildén Academy, which provides basic education in visual arts, is the Centre’s visual arts school.
