Final project exhibition of young students in basic education in the arts at Metso until 12 June 2026
The final project exhibition by young students from the Sara Hildén Academy is on view in the exhibition space of the Metso Main Library until 12 June 2026. The exhibition features works by 19 students.
The works have been created using a variety of techniques, including painting, drawing, clay sculpting, scriptwriting and comic art, as well as video, photography and different collage techniques.
Heidi Saramäki, Assistant Principal responsible for the visual arts school, says the works reflect young people’s lives and ways of thinking in a touching manner.
– The exhibition presents highly personal works that explore the formation and search for identity. The works also address broader themes such as appearance pressures and different stages of life. Many pieces also include elements that draw on fantasy and fairy tales, Saramäki says.
The final project is completed during the final years of the programme, which spans 11 years of study. Each student creates a work or series of works based on a self-selected theme and method. The project is carried out both in workshop groups under teacher guidance and independently in the student’s own time. In addition to the artwork, students compile a portfolio presenting their work and the creative process. The final project is an essential part of the advanced studies in basic education in the arts.
The visual arts school Sara Hildén Academy, part of The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region, provides basic education in the arts for children, young people and adults. The school has approximately 500 students. Its activities are based on the Act on Basic Education in the Arts, and teaching is delivered by visual arts teachers, artists, designers and other professionals in the visual field.
The application period for children’s and young people’s basic studies in visual arts is open until 31 May 2026.
