Drawing installation In the Footsteps of Tove’s Line by adult students at the Sara Hildén Academy on display at Sampola until 27 August 2026
The installation brings together drawings by 15 adult students from the Sara Hildén Academy. According to Kukka-Maaria Koskinen, the teacher responsible for basic education in visual arts for adults, the group visited the Moomin Museum on a guided tour to gain Tove-inspired inspiration for their own visual expression.
– Tove Jansson emphasised the importance of play, curiosity and creativity in her art. This installation is a tribute to playfulness and creativity – because adults, too, need the freedom to play, Koskinen says.
The installation has been created through drawing, cutting, combining and assembling works in ink and marker. The drawings shift from one mood and space to another, from the seabed to the forest and from the forest underground, while the overall composition hints at alternate realities.
– Although drawing is often a solitary process, this work required collaboration. After the initial planning and development of themes, the installation evolved from individual drawings into a unified yet wildly imaginative whole, where everyone’s creativity can flourish, Koskinen explains.
The installation In the Footsteps of Tove’s Line by the Sara Hildén Academy’s adult student group AKU10 is on display in the display case in the Sampola lobby from 11 May to 27 August 2026. Sampola will be closed from 13 June to 3 August 2026. At other times, the exhibition can be viewed during Sampola’s opening hours.
The Sara Hildén Academy provides basic education in visual arts for children, young people and adults. The school has approximately 500 students. Its activities are based on the Finnish Act on Basic Education in the Arts. The teaching staff consists of art educators, visual artists, designers and other visual arts professionals.
The next application period for adult basic education in visual arts will take place in 2027.
