Throw away or stitch on? – exhibition at Sampola until 19 March 2026
The works in the exhibition Throw Away or Stitch On? have been created mainly through embroidery and sewing, but a variety of other techniques have also been used.
– This group hardly throws anything away. Instead, they make use of all kinds of leftover materials and transform them into creative, playful, touching, useful and thought‑provoking works, says Kati Suonpää‑Rantanen, the teacher of the Creative Sewing course at The Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region.
The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the wide-ranging possibilities of sewing and the potential of sustainable creative practices.
– The group pushes back against throwaway culture and encourages others to take a look in their own cupboards and consider whether everything old really needs to be discarded – or whether it might be time to pick up a needle and thread instead, the course teacher adds.
The exhibition features a total of 31 works by eight students. Admission is free of charge, and the exhibition is on display in the display case in the Sampola lobby until 19 March 2026.
