What experience economy?
Can you be big and small at the same time? Can you have roots deep in Finland’s red-brick industrial quarters yet fell just as at home basking in the glow of superstars? Be coding games for international audiences first and then slip into the nearest forest to gather bilberries?
That’s us, Tampere, full of experiences.
Tampere tells a thousand different stories. You get to decide which story you want to hear today. Do you want to feel the pulse of the city or the silence of a museum hall? Dance until your feet ache at a major event with thousands of others or walk in your bathrobe to the nearest ice swimming spot?
We believe experiences should be on a human scale. That means easily accessible cultural experiences, lovingly maintained old buildings, vibrant subcultures, and nature just around the corner.
Through our cultural education programme, Art Arc, we inspire children and young people to become both creators and enjoyers of experiences. For students, we offer education in creative fields from event production to the experience economy. We delight adults with sports events, theatre performances, and live gigs. For the elderly, we have a variety of programmes and welcoming communities. Even if you lived in Tampere your whole life, you would never run out of things to discover.
For us, human scale also means that everything is close by. This keeps the rhythm of everyday life relaxed – and leaves us time to meet each other.
Experiences create jobs. Over a thousand companies in the Tampere Region are already part of the experience economy. Our goal is to make Tampere its international hub: a place where experiences and smart technologies drive new business and enhance the city’s appeal. We are already seasoned veterans in world-class film production.
Looking ahead, the growth platform for experiences will only become stronger: for example, we are developing the Deck area into a unique blend of jobs, housing, and events, with Nokia Arena offering a glimpse of what’s to come. We build walls with the same ambition that we create experiences within them.
Tampere is a city of contrasts, but never of conflict. The new and the old, the big and the small coexist here in harmony. You can swap rubber boots for patent leather shoes and change the mood in an instant. Maybe that’s the secret why Tampere is such a beloved home for its residents and a favourite city for visitors.
Elsewhere, people might talk about lifestyle, but for us, it’s simply our way of life.
