Culture House Laikku
Kahvila Laikku café has slightly different opening hours. The café is open Tuesday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
You can also rent Laikku's facilities for arranging your own events and meetings. Laikku's programme is produced by hundreds of different event organisers and performing groups.
Laikku is run by the City of Tampere's Public Culture Services, which also has an office in the building. Laikku is also home to the Children's Cultural Centre Rulla, The Finnish Youth Association, Kansainvälinen toimintakeskus, Association of Finnish Children’s Cultural Centers and the Tampere Office of the Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
Laikku is the former main library of Tampere. The building takes its name from the local habit of calling the library a 'lending library', lainakirjasto in Finnish. The shortened word 'lainasto' then became Laikku in the Tampere dialect.
