Handicraft arts exhibition at Library Leija, 28 April–8 May 2026

The Välähdyksiä exhibition by students of basic education in handicraft arts at the Adult Education Centre showcases works created using a wide range of materials and techniques. The pieces reflect insights gained during the studies as well as the creative processes behind each work.

Adult students of basic education in handicraft arts at the Adult Education Centre of the Tampere Region have worked throughout the spring on the shared "Glimpses" theme. While the theme unites the exhibition, the main works highlight each student’s individual design and making process. The exhibition also features other handicraft works completed during the studies, offering a diverse overview of techniques, materials and creative possibilities.

Exhibitions play an important role as learning experiences in basic education in the arts. According to Ulla Tujula, the coordinator teacher responsible for basic education in handicraft arts, organising exhibitions supports group cohesion and interaction skills, while also developing creative problem-solving abilities.

– Putting together a joint exhibition is highly meaningful. Skills related to reflection and processing one’s own emotions also develop when exhibitions and their works are discussed together with the group and the teacher, Tujula says.

The next application period for adult basic education in handicraft arts will take place from 1 May to 16 August 2026. The Adult Education Centre will publish application instructions online at the end of April.

– In addition to enthusiasm and interest, the studies require commitment to a long-term and goal-oriented hobby. At the same time, students gain the support of a wonderful community of people interested in crafts and art, as well as expert teaching, Tujula adds.

The Välähdyksiä exhibition can be visited at the gallery of Ylöjärvi Library Leija from 28 April to 8 May 2026. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open during the library’s opening hours.
