Culture House Laikku 100 jubilee weekend 10–12 October

Culture Highlight #41: Known as the former main library of Tampere, Laikku has been transformed over the decades into a vibrant cultural center. The anniversary year will culminate in October with a weekend of events. The program includes for example music, dance, and an architectural presentation. Admission to all events is free.

A photo exhibition showcasing the history of the old library building will open in the Laikku Lobby Gallery on Tuesday, 7 October. The exhibition presents the building from its early days to the present. The exhibition will be on display until Sunday, 2 November.

The actual celebration weekend begins on Friday, 10 October, at 6 p.m. with a public celebration outside in front of Laikku, reminiscent of the library building's inauguration exactly 100 years ago. The celebration will feature music, speeches, and a new poem written for Laikku.

The celebrations will continue Saturday and Sunday, 11–12 October, with dancing, music, and an architectural presentation of the building, among other things. During the weekend, it will also be possible to take a peek into areas that are not normally accessible to customers.
