Moomin Museum's Reading Library
Tove Jansson’s first Moomin story, The Moomins and the Great Flood, was published in 1945. In the book, Moomintroll and Moominmamma set out to find a new home and the missing Moominpappa, encountering wild adventures along the way. At the end of the story, they are happily reunited with Moominpappa in their new home, Moominhouse. The central theme of the anniversary year is the Moominhouse itself and what it represents – a sense of belonging, safety, and a place where the door is always open.
In the Moomin Museum’s Reading Library, you will find Moomin books in dozens of different languages as well as numerous works about Tove Jansson. The collection holds treasures from many decades, and new editions of Moomin books will continue to be added to the library in the future.
The Moomin books written and illustrated by Tove Jansson captivate both children and adults alike. In the quiet nook of the Reading Library, you can sit down and marvel at Jansson’s mastery and delicate use of the pen. Of course, her original illustrations can also be admired at the Moomin Museum!
The Reading Library welcomes passersby in the main lobby of Tampere Hall, and it is open whenever the building itself is open. Books cannot be borrowed to take home.
