Haihara Art Centre's Summer Art Exhibitions

Culture Highlight #28: Haihara Art Centre, located in Kaukajärvi, hosts open-to-all rotating art exhibitions every summer. The exhibition spaces are the historical Manor built in the 1870s and the Stable located in the Manor's courtyard. Free entry!

The Haihara Art Centre area comes to life in full glory every summer when the exhibition and event season kicks off in earnest. In addition to the exhibitions, the area also features the Haihara Coffee Chamber and the Runeberg's Cottage, which operates a handicraft shop. The various operators and events in the area make the Haihara Art Centre a great destination for a summer day visit!

In June, the Stable will host the Rewilding exhibition by Villi kollektiivi, which explores the rewilding of both humans and nature. The artists of the exhibition have studied together at Pirkan Opisto, where their artistry and creativity have had the opportunity to flourish. They have brought the results for everyone to see in the exhibition, which will be on display until June 19th.

In July, the Manor will feature a joint exhibition by the Plusmiinus artist group. In addition to their work as artists, the group members work as freelance museum curators in museums in the Helsinki metropolitan area. The name of the artist group refers to the hanging height and measurement range of the works displayed in museums, with the average height rising and falling. In this exhibition, the artists intend to define the hanging height themselves.

At the same time, the Stable will feature works by the Hajavalo collective, showcasing photographic art. The exhibition is a production of photography students from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Lapland. The exhibition explores the environment from many different perspectives, ranging from urban landscapes to the inner world of humans. The exhibition invites the viewer on a fascinating journey through various viewpoints, moods, and stories from real life.

The last exhibitions of the season will open in the Stable in August. On the ground floow, the Watan Friendship Association will present Palestinian tatreez embroidery, which was added to UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage in 2021. The upper floor will showcase works by Haihara's resident artist, Simon Ertel, who works with ink, aquarelles and collages.

Open call for the city of Tampere’s exhibition spaces, including Haihara, is organized every spring.

Haihara Art Center is open Tue-Sun from 1 PM to 6 PM. Closed on Epiphany, Midsummer, and during exhibition changes.

Free admission to the exhibitions.
