What kind of park is it?

Vihilahdenpuisto Park is located south of the Arboretum. The park features a memorial grove planted in 1995 by representatives of the countries participating in the IUFRO World Congress, organized by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations.

The Vihilahdenpuisto Park is the first park along the Vihioja from the west. Later, the Vihiojanpuisto Park starts in the east. In 2024, the bay area in front of Vihioja was dredged, and a bottom weir and an additional culvert were constructed between the bay and Lake Pyhäjärvi. These measures improved the living and spawning conditions for fish in the area.

Memorial grove

The memorial grove contains 35 species and varieties of trees, totalling 115 trees. Each participating country has its own memorial tree. Most of the trees planted in Vihilahdenpuisto are trees that thrive in Finland, but there are also some rarities. In addition to the more familiar trees, the park contains Sakhalin fir (Abies sachalinensis), Dahurian larch (Larix gmelinii), Ezo spruce (Picea jezoensis), Korean arborvitae (Thuja koraiensis), mountain hemlock (Tsuga mertensiana) and Greene's Mountain-ash (Sorbus scopulina).

There is a large natural stone along the park's pathway. A brass plaque is attached to it, engraved with the names of all the participating countries.
