General upper secondary school

Hatanpään lukion yleislinja

Students at Pyynikin lukio gain strong skills and knowledge during their upper secondary studies to help them succeed in further education and in life. Through guidance counselling courses, co-operation with universities and working life, and individual counselling sessions, the school aims to strengthen students’ career planning, study, and working life skills.

Pyynikin lukio provides an excellent foundation for the matriculation examination. Teaching emphasizes practical learning as well as the use of different learning styles and strategies. The teaching methods and tools are modern. Students at Pyynikin lukio can also complete courses at Tampereen lyseon lukio, located just a 2-minute walk away.

At Pyynikin lukio, you are never left alone, as everyone looks out for one another. Getting started with your studies is made easier through ready-made timetables and approachable student tutors. You are also supported by your homeroom teacher, guidance counsellor, special education teacher and student welfare professionals such as the school social worker and psychologist.

Pyynikin lukio offers a wide range of study options and high-quality teaching. We also organize many excursions and study visits to interesting destinations across Finland.

At Pyynikin lukio, students have excellent opportunities to participate in international activities. The school is an Erasmus+-accredited institution, offering students better-than-average opportunities to take part in group trips or short-term exchanges in Europe. The school also regularly hosts international students and teachers. The aim in travelling is to favour climate-friendly alternatives whenever possible.

We are a Liikkuva lukio (“Active Upper Secondary School”). Following the principles of the national initiative launched by the Finnish National Agency for Education, we promote an active school day. Everyday physical activity has a positive effect on both wellbeing and learning outcomes. Students can also enrich their studies by choosing from a diverse range of sports courses, from ball games to dance and outdoor activities.

Our language selection is extensive. Students can study English, Swedish, Spanish, French, German, and Russian, as well as Finnish as a second language. Our cooperation partners include Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Tampere University, Pirkanmaan musiikkiopisto, and Tampere Conservatoire.
