Bullying prevention and intervention

Prevention of bullying

Schools play a key role in preventing bullying. The Basic Education Act guarantees students the right to a safe learning environment. Safety refers to both physical and psychological safety – meaning that no one should have to feel afraid at school.

The law requires each school to have its own plan to protect students from bullying, violence, and harassment. These school-specific plans can be found on the schools’ websites. The plan defines procedures for handling conflicts, including responsibilities, division of tasks, and practices for hearing and documentation, to ensure pupils are protected from bullying, violence, and harassment. These procedures are also used in situations that do not involve bullying, violence, or harassment.

Each school has multi-professional expertise to support the recognition of social situations and emotions, as well as learning new interaction skills.
