Culture District - Development Project of the Western City Centre of Tampere
The appeal of the area is based on the richness and diversity of its services, which include a wide range of amenities and activities. The Culture District combines Tampere's urban history with its modern pulse, offering inspiring cultural experiences and surprising delights.
The concept consists of the network and its joint marketing activities, graphic design elements in the area, public art and digital solutions.
A browser-based digital map of the district allows visitors to find cultural sites, attractions, events, and suggested itineraries.
Revitalising the area's attractiveness
Tampere's western city centre is home to almost 40 cultural sites and numerous attractions and businesses. The area has faced challenges in its development and there has been a need to raise its profile as an area strongly characterised by culture.
The Culture District emphasises the distinctive character of the western city centre and strengthens the network of stakeholders providing services in the area.
The measures are in line with the city strategy, which supports Tampere's profile as a city of culture and events and strengthens the role of culture in the city's development.
At the same time, the business potential of the area will be increased, as will the city's attractiveness and international competitiveness.
Cooperation and experiences
For operators, the Culture District acts as a unifying factor and a cohesive regional brand. It provides network members with marketing support and tools for creating new content. Through close cooperation, the area is becoming the most attractive cultural hotspot in Tampere.
For visitors, the Culture District is a conveniently located city centre area full of attractions and experiences. The aim is to increase visitor numbers in the western city centre while also attracting more cultural and business activities.
This will raise the area's profile as an attractive destination for residents and tourists alike. The Culture District offers accessible, low-threshold cultural experiences for all.
The Culture District develops through creative industries incubators
A new project was launched in the Culture District in April 2026. The project "Creative industries incubators in the Culture District supporting the revitalisation of western central Tampere" strengthens cooperation between local actors and develops both digital services and urban space.
The project includes two incubators: a digital incubator promotes the use of the Culture District’s digital map and the Tampere.Finland application, while an incubator focusing on urban space produces concrete measures to increase comfort and visibility. The project is implemented by the City of Tampere and funded through AKKE funding from the Regional Council of Pirkanmaa.
