Conservation

Collections are cared for by musem conservators. Conservation means supporting the object inconspicuously and halting the process of decay. Conservation is always based on a careful examination of the object’s materials, structure and method of manufacture.

Preservation is preventive conservation. Correct handling and suitable storage can stop or at least slow down the deterioration of objects. Conservators are able to preserve exhibits for the benefit of future visitors to the museum.
