The 2011/2012 concert
season of the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra is once again a varied mix of the
old and the new.
The core of our programme focuses increasingly on the most important
symphonies, classical through modern. After Beethoven, attention will now turn
to Haydn as well. Berlioz, Schubert, Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Sibelius form the
grand arc of the concert season. Our Mahler series continues with the 3rd
and 4th symphonies. At the end of the symphonic journey stands one
of the undeniable gems of this form, Messiaen’s Turangalîla-Symphonie. The
programme also includes four world premieres and two Finnish premieres.
For the first time in
years, our programme extends back to the pre-classical era. Corelli, Vivaldi,
Telemann and Handel make a comeback with the Tampere Philharmonic Baroque
Orchestra. Culminating in J. S. Bach’s St John Passion, this project led by
violinist Sirkka-Liisa Kaakinen-Pilch brings significant breadth to our
repertoire and will reveal new colours in the orchestra’s performance in the
coming years.
Acclaimed soloists from
previous seasons naturally make reappearances, but many of the guest soloists
and conductors get their Finnish debut with us this season. Thus the audience
of Tampere Philharmonic has a front row view of the emergence of new stars on
the international stage.
The long-awaited acoustical
renovation of the Main Auditorium will take place in the summer before our
concert season begins. The working conditions of Tampere Philharmonic will see
significant improvement with the installation of acoustical elements dubbed
“flying clouds” into the stage ceiling. Our audience will enjoy a sound that
rings ever brighter in an even broader spectrum of shades and hues.
