Early Childhood and Basic Education

Education and Learning Services provide statutory daycare and basic education.

  • Early Childhood Education supports the child's growth, development and child-oriented learning in collaboration with the families.
  • Basic Education is responsible for organizing operations based on the Basic Education Act and for the development of teaching.

The services are directed by the Director of Early Childhood and Basic Education.

Visiting schools and kindergartens in Tampere

Tampere is the third biggest city by population and the signpost of the educational development in Finland. Visiting our schools and kindergartens is a highlight of many international visitors interested in the Finnish success in PISA. People from all over the world travel to Tampere in order to find out how Finnish schools and kindergartens work and enable such efficient and versatile learning.

We host a large number of visitors every year. In the academic year 2016–2017, there were around a thousand visitors and the number is still growing every year.

In order to visit a comprehensive school or a day nursery in Tampere, please contact our Coordinator Ms. Riikka Gummerus and tell her when your group would like to come, what to see and how many you are in total.

A list of all the communal schools and day nurseries is available below and you are able to make wishes to visit the education center you are interested in the most. However, it cannot be guaranteed that you will be able to visit any specific center requested.

Schools mainly welcome visits between September and November, as well as between January and April. August is dedicated to giving an impulse to the new academic year while December and May are calmed down to allow pupils take their exams in peace and quiet.

In the summer schools are closed and only a small selection of kindergartens are open in June and July.

The price of the visit

Administrative fee
200 € / visit (max two consecutive days in the same school)
Visit fee
15 € / person / max 3 hours (school lunch not included)
20 € / person / max 3 hours (including school lunch)
25 € / person / max 6 hours (including school lunch an d coffee)
Expert presentation fee
300 € / hour (obligatory on one day during the visit)
A value added tax (VAT) of 24% will be added to all prices.

PLEASE NOTE:

We only send invitation letters after the full payment of the visit has been paid. The invitation letter is only written for the days of your school visit. The invitation letter does not guarantee an accepted visa application. If your visa application is not accepted, the payment for the school visit will not be returned.

The visits are not charged if they involve a reciprocal agreement or form part of the operation between twin cities.
