Application period for early childhood education places for this autumn has begun
The application period for early childhood education and open early education clubs available in August 2020 in Tampere has started. The application period ends on 22 March 2020.
If the family already knows they will need a day care place for the child this autumn, it is recommended to participate in this application period. In August, when the current age group moves from day care to preschool education, a lot of day care places will become available around the city.
Applications for a place in early childhood education can also be sent all year round outside the application period. A place must be applied for at least four months before the need for day care begins.
The primary means for applying for a place is the electronic application form on the City of Tampere’s website. If necessary, the application form can also be filled in at the customer service desk of early childhood education services (located at Frenckellinaukio 2 B) from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Questions related to applying and other services may be submitted to the customer service desk of the Education and Learning Services department on tel. +358 40 800 7260 (calling time Mon–Fri at 9:00–12:00) or by e-mail to varhaiskasvatus.asiakaspalvelu(at)tampere.fi.
The early childhood education services begin in day-care centres on 10 August 2020 as the summer operation period ends.
More information on early childhood education, different day care alternatives and the application procedure can be found on the City of Tampere’s website. The website also provides information on day-care centres that provide child care services in the evenings and for shift workers as well as on language groups and open early education clubs and family clubs intended for children under school age and their families.
Families living in the Tampere region can also apply for a place in municipal early childhood education for their children in other municipalities in the nearby region (Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Vesilahti and Ylöjärvi). The application is made for both the applicant’s own municipality of residence and the applicant’s region. The residents of the municipality have priority for early childhood education in their municipality of residence so a place can only be granted to other children in the region if there are open places left.
The offering of private early childhood education services has increased in recent years. Private services are an important part of a functional service network in Tampere and the municipalities of the region.
The private service offering includes, among other things, day care centres for which the city grants a service voucher to the family (service voucher day care centres). The family may also get a place in a private day care centre with the private day care allowance (granted by Kela). In this case, the family applies for a place by first contacting the chosen day care provider directly.
In some of its operating regions, the City of Tampere also acquires early childhood education as a purchased service from private providers. In this case, the family applies for a place directly from the city.
A family living in Tampere can also apply for a day care place in private day-care centres operating in neighbouring municipalities by contacting the day-care centre in question.
