Tampere Christmas Opening Nov 26

The Tampere Christmas Opening will be celebrated on Sunday, November 26. The traditional Christmas parade will leave Metso at 2 pm and will go along Puutarhakatu and Aleksis Kiven katu to the Old Church in front of the Keskustori Central Square. The parade will be led by Santa Claus himself. After the parade, there will be an event featuring live music, and the Keskustori Central Square's Christmas tree lights will be switched on.

Tallipiha Stable Yards' Christmas 18 Nov - 23 Dec

In the beautiful wooden houses of Stable Yards you can find shops, boutiques and a cafe with delicious treats, hot beverages and freshly baked goods. Little booths at the yard are filled with quality handicrafts and design on weekends. Children can pet the farm animals in the stable. Stable Yards celebrate Christmas with various events and atmospheric Christmas decorations.

  • Shops and boutiques every day 10–19 (23 Dec 10–17)
  • The cafe every day 10–20, the terrace on weekends and on Independence Day 6 Dec 11–18
  • Christmas markets on weekends and on Independence Day 11–18 (23 Dec 11–17).

Tampere Christmas Market 25 Nov - 22 Dec

The traditional Tampere Christmas Market will open partially on 25 November as the Gluhwein restaurant, the doughnut café and some of the artisan and food stalls open. The Christmas Market will be fully open on 2 December at 11 am. The opening celebrations will be 2 December at 5 pm with host Salla Paajanen and performers Anne-Mari Jussila, Santa & Hatanpään lukio upper secondary school elves, Pia Piltz and Choir Cantarelli.

As usual, the stalls will feature authentic Finnish handcrafts, unique Christmas gifts and even more Christmas delicacies. In addition to domestic products, the Christmas Market will also feature Ukrainian handcrafts. A varied programme is also an essential part of the Christmas Market, with choirs, children's groups and performers providing a daily experience.

Opening hours 

  • Open every day from 11 am to 7 pm.
  • The Gluhwein restaurant is open daily until 8 pm (22 December till 7 pm)

Christmas at the Palace at the Museum Milavida 21 Nov, 2023 - 7 Jan, 2024

Museum Milavida has been decorated for Christmas, and objects and stories about the Christmas celebrations of 19th century gentlefolk have been added to The Nottbecks – Cosmopolitans of Tampere exhibition. Christmas at the Palace consists of an exhibition, themed guided tours and a rich supporting programme.

  • 5 December, 22 December and 31 December 11 am - 4 pm
  • Closed on 6 December, 23–25 December, 2023 and 1 January, 2024

Independence Day celebrations and Children's Independence Day Ball 6 Dec

Tampere celebrates the Finnish Independence Day on 6 December from 5 to 5.30 pm at Keskustori Central Square. The Independence Day celebrations will be headlined by VIIVI and Konsta Hietanen, among others. The event is open to all and free of charge.

Children's Independence Day Ball at Tampere Hall (Yliopistonkatu 55) on 6 December from 2 to 5 pm. The event is suitable for the whole family, especially for 4–12 year olds. The dress code is festive, but respectful of the child's own vision. At the event you can admire dance performances, participate in art workshops and dance yourself. Entrance to the event is free.

Winter lighting at Keskustori Central Square 6 Dec, 2023 - 7 Jan, 2024

At the end of the event, the buildings in the Keskustori Central Square area will be illuminated with winter light installations, which will last until 7 January 2024. After Independence Day, the buildings will be lit up daily from 4 pm to 10 pm.

Swimming in the Christmas mood 15 Dec and 20–21 Dec

Enjoy a swim with Christmas music and lighting in City of Tampere's swimming pools.

  • Pyynikki swimming pool on Friday 15 December at 17–20.30
  • Tesoma Swimming Pool on Wednesday 20 December at 17–20.30
  • Hervanta Swimming Pool on Thursday 21 December in the morning 6–9 and in the evening 17–20

Doghill Christmas at Särkänniemi

Enjoy the Christmas spirit at the Doghill Christmas at Särkänniemi amusement park. You can play, sing, enjoy and treat yourself in the Christmas wonderland of Koiramäki and meet Santa Claus, reindeer and other animal friends.

  • Friday 15 December 4 pm - 8 pm
  • Tuesday and Wednesday 26–27 December 2 pm - 6 pm

Christmas at Finlayson Area 1–31 Dec

Väinö Linna Square and the Finlayson area will be decorated with lights and plantings for Christmas time. Video installation at Kuusvooninkinen features the animals of the forest.

Hiedanranta Christmas 2–20 Dec

Hiedanranta Christmas offers culture, events and atmospheric moments. For example 2 Dec Children's event 10 am to 1 pm and Christmas Sales 2–6 pm at Lielahden kartano, Tehdaskartanonkatu 38.
