Tampere supports Ukraine: Hameenkatu light curtain and Tammerkoski lights will go dark on 21.12.2022
The light curtain on Hämeenkatu and the lights byTammerkoski will be turned off for about one minute on Wednesday 21 December 2022 at 19.00. Before and after the turn-off, both the light curtain and Tammerkoski will be illuminated blue and yellow for a moment.

The City of Tampere is taking part in an international campaign to draw attention to the situation in Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, both by illuminating and turning off the lights. The city received the request from the Ukrainian Embassy in Finland.
"With this small gesture, we want to tell the Ukrainians, and especially the people of our twin city, Kiev, that they are in our minds and symbolically show our support for Ukraine. Power cuts are very common across the country. The Ukrainian National Ballet is also performing at the Tampere Hall at the same exact time on Wednesday,” says Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Mayor of Tampere.
The colours of Ukraine have shone brightly in Tampere before, for example, in February and on the Ukrainian National Day in August.
