The library was founded in 1861.

The library network includes the main library, 13 branch libraries, home and institutional services, 2 mobile libraries (visiting over 100 stops) and 3 Tietotori computer learning centers.

Additional information

  • Tampere City library uses Axiell Aurora library system together with 21 other public libraries in Pirkanmaa area. Together we are called PIKI-libraries. We share a joint Net library and collections (3,1 million) and 9,3 million loans a year. Customers can use one library card at all PIKI-libraries.
