The alteration work for converting the old library building into a cultural centre will begin in January. The existing conference and gallery facilities were closed on 18 December 2016 and remain out of use during the renovation work until spring 2018, at which point the building will be opened as a new type of cultural centre.
Between Christmas and New Year’s Day, the health centres in the city of Tampere will only treat patients in need of urgent care. Of the city health centres, those of Atala, Kämmenniemi and Tesoma will be closed between 24 December 2016 and 8 January 2017. Omapihlaja Kehräsaari is closed from 24 December until 30 December 2016.
The Tampere Christmas Market will once again be open for visitors until 22 December; Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm and Sundays from 12 noon to 7 pm. At the Market you can find unique crafts for Santa’s sack as well as Christmas treats. The event is held for the eighth time this year.
The year 2017 will be a celebration of Finland’s 100 years of independence. The centenary will be celebrated throughout the country, with many special events to be held in Tampere as well. The centenary will be seen and felt in Tampere’s events and cityscape throughout the year.
The tasks of granting and paying basic income support will be transferred to Kela from the municipalities as of 1 January 2017. Written income support applications can be submitted to the City of Tampere until the end of 2016. Electronic applications can be submitted to the City of Tampere until 11 December 2016.
