The library will be closed for renovations for a week at the turn of November and December. Customers will still be able to return items and pick up reserved items in Sampola during the renovations.
The key areas in the 2019 budget of the City of Tampere are related to tackling the challenges posed by urbanisation and the economy. The city’s population is estimated to exceed 239,000 during next year, and this will increase the need for services and create financial pressure. The programme for achieving financial balance will continue, with the objective of balancing the city’s finances by 2020.
The call for proposals for the Finnish Government’s International Gender Equality Prize is now open to the public. The International Gender Equality Prize is awarded once every two years in cooperation with the City of Tampere. The next prize will be awarded in autumn 2019.
The commercial production of carbon-negative district heating has begun in Hiedanranta, Tampere. This is the first time carbon-negative district heating is being produced commercially in Finland. Hiedanranta will act as a development platform in a project where Carbofex Oy will produce district heating alongside biochar, its main product. The district heating will be bought by Tampereen Sähkölaitos Oy, which will distribute it to its own customers via its district heating network. The Hiedanranta Development Project has assisted the cooperation efforts and will become the first customer of the carbon-negative district heating production.
The strike will affect the catering and sanitation services at many schools, day care centres and educational institutes on Monday 22 October and Tuesday 23 October. There will be changes in the menu and we are not able to deliver special diet meals everywhere. We recommend bringing your own snacks that can be stored at room temperature.
Society for the History of Technology has chosen the Finnish Museum of Games, located in the Museum Centre Vapriikki in Tampere, to receive the 2018 Dibner Award for Excellence in Museum Exhibits. The award was announced on October 13th at the Society’s Annual Meeting in St. Louis. This is the first time the award is given to a museum in Finland.
