The City of Tampere's Technical Creativity Award for 2021 (worth EUR 5,000) has been awarded to Pasi Keinänen, D.Sc. (Tech.), and his working group, who have developed a photocatalytic coating called Fotonit. The non-toxic coating effectively wipes out various kinds of microbes from contact surfaces and only needs light to function.
Tampere Photographic Society organizes a joint exhibition of Pirkanmaa-based camera clubs at the Gallery of Culture House Laikku. The exhibition features works of amateur photographers. Free admission.
The City of Tampere, Yleisradio, Akun Tehdas and the property company SBB Norden have signed a letter of intent on 27 January 2022, which will launch the planning and construction of a new studio in Tohloppi, Tampere. A new world-class studio is needed as the current studio facilities in Mediapolis have been fully booked for a long time.

COVID-19 vaccinations for all children between the ages of 5 and 11 will be available in Tampere as of 17 January and in Orivesi as of 24 January 2022. Tampere residents can already book vaccination appointments. In Orivesi, appointments will be available by 17 January 2022 at the latest.
In Tampere and Orivesi, the dose interval between the second and third vaccination in people aged 18–59-years-old has been decreased to four months.
