City Council elects representatives for key positions in political decision-making
Tampere City Council held its first meeting of the term on Monday, 16 August 2021. At the meeting, all appointments to key positions of political decision-making were made.
Anna-Kaisa Ikonen (National Coalition Party) was elected Mayor. Pekka Salmi (SDP) and Ilkka Sasi (National Coalition Party) were elected deputy mayors of the Growth, Innovation and Competitiveness Services committee for the periods 2021–2023 and 2023–2025, respectively. Matti Helimo (Greens) was elected Deputy Mayor of the Education and Culture Committee. Johanna Loukaskorpi (SPD) was elected Deputy Mayor of the Social Services and Health Care Committee, and Aleksi Jäntti (National Coalition Party) was elected Deputy Mayor of the Urban Environment and Infrastructure Services Committees for the first two years and Pekka Salmi for the following two-year term.
Kalervo Kummola (National Coalition Party; 2nd Vice-Chair), Anne-Mari Jussila (National Coalition Party), Jouni Markkanen (National Coalition Party), Lauri Lyly (SDP; 1st Vice-Chair), Aila Dündar-Järvinen (SDP), Kirsi Kaivonen (SDP), Jaakko Stenhäll (Greens), Brigita Krasniqi (Greens), Lassi Kaleva (Finns Party; 3rd Vice-Chair), Aarne Raevaara (Finns), Milka Hanhela (Left Alliance) and Sari Tanus (Christian Democrats) were elected members of the City Board. Mayor Anna-Kaisa Ikonen will serve as Chair of the City Board.
Members were also elected for the Social Services and Health Care Committee, the Education and Culture Committee, the Growth, Innovation and Competitiveness Services Committee, the Housing and Real Estate Committee, the Committee for City Planning and Infrastructure Services and the Regional Waste Management Committee.
