The new Pellervo day care centre and school is about to open in the Kaleva district of Tampere. The Pellervo day care centre was the first to move to the new building in March. Pre-primary education and school will start to operate in the Pellervo facilities next August.

The address of the new Pellervo day care centre and school is Sämpsykkä 1 (33540 Tampere, turn from Sammonkatu to Väinämöisenkuja and follow it to Sämpsykkä). So far, the Pellervo day care centre has been operating in a relocatable building that will be relocated during April.

The new day care centre has room for a total of 160 children. The day care centre mainly functions on the first floor of the building, and pre-primary education and grades 1 and 2 on the second floor. The building consists of two wings, connected by shared spaces. The building has a lift, and all facilities are accessible.

Pellervo also offers evening care and child care services for shift workers

The specific needs of 24-hour care have been considered in the building design because the new Pellervo day care centre will also offer evening care and child care services for shift workers. The Vellamo day care centre will be closed in the summer 2021 for renovation, and child care services for shift workers will be provided in the Pellervo day care centre.

The facilities are versatile and can be adapted according to the needs. This facilitates responding to changes in the number of children in early childhood education and care, pre-primary education and the first and second grade. The facilities are flexible because some of the group rooms of the Pellervo day care centre can also be used for teaching. It is also possible to use school rooms as play areas.

Both the day care centre and the school use the canteen and the gym. They also share the yard. The canteen and the gym can also be rented for evening use.

School opens its doors in August

The school and pre-primary education will start to operate in the Pellervo premises at the beginning of the autumn term, on 10 August 2021. At the same time, Eppu club will start to provide morning and afternoon activities in the same premises.

At first, the school will have two pre-primary education groups and one first grade class. There is room for up to two pre-primary education groups, two first grade classes and two second grade classes. The school houses approximately 50 children in pre-primary education and 100 schoolchildren.

The Pellervo school building is part of the Sampo School. The Pellervo pupils come from the school district of the Sampo School. After finishing first and second grade in Pellervo, the pupils will continue in the Sampo School from the third grade onwards.
