Urgent appointments increased in health centres

Published 13.11.2018 15.28

Tampere aims to make it easier for residents to find urgent care in health centres. Emergency care will be increased at all health centres. The policies of health centres will also be amended. Some matters can be handled over the phone, for example, without the need to book an appointment.

When a Tampere resident falls ill, their own health centre is the primary care provider. A nurse assesses the need for care either over the phone or at the health centre.

The first aid unit Acuta of Tampere University Hospital provides assistance in urgent emergencies. Acuta accepts patients who have injured themselves or fallen ill abruptly and cannot be treated at health centres.

If an Acuta nurse assesses that the patient does not need emergency care, the patient does not need to wait in Acuta but is aimed to have an appointment at their own health centre the following day.

Appointments and contacts at Tampere health centres

A nurse assesses the need for care over the phone or at the health centre and, if necessary, books an appointment with a nurse or a physician. If the illness or injury requires urgent care, the appointment is made at the patient’s own health centre or, if the centre is closed, at Hatanpää urgent care. Book an appointment for urgent care via the health care counselling service by calling 03 10023. The urgent care only accepts patients who have booked an appointment and is open on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

If you are unsure whether to contact the first aid unit Acuta of Tampere University Hospital or your health centre, contact the health care counselling service by calling 03 10023. You can also visit your health centre.
