The primary means for applying for a place is the electronic application form on the City of Tampere’s website. When necessary, paper forms can be printed from the website, picked up from the day care centre or from the customer service desk of the Education and Learning Services department (Frenckellinaukio 2B).

Early childhood education services in day care centres will start after the summertime activities on 6 August 2018, and the club activities will start on 9 August 2018.

More information on early childhood education, different day care alternatives and the application procedure can be found on the City of Tampere’s website. The website also provides information on day care centres that provide child care services in the evenings and for shift workers as well as on language groups and open early childhood education clubs intended for children under school age and their families.

Questions related to applying and other services may submitted to the customer service desk of the Education and Learning Services department, tel. 040 800 7260 (calling time Mon–Fri at 9:00–12:00) or to varhaiskasvatus.asiakaspalvelu(at)

Applications for a place in early childhood education can also be sent year-round outside the application period. A place must be applied for at least four months before the need for day care begins.

Families living in the Tampere region can also apply for a place in early childhood education for their children in other municipalities in the nearby region (Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Vesilahti and Ylöjärvi). The application is made for both the applicant’s own municipality of residence and the applicant’s region. When making the selection, priority is given to the local residents of the municipality in question. A place can be granted for children in the region only if there are open places left. The regional agreement between municipalities is valid until the start of preschool education. If the child is granted a place in another municipality in the region, the day care shall be covered by an outsourcing agreement.

Private early childhood education increases in Tampere

The number of service voucher day care centres in Tampere has increased considerably. Furthermore, private early childhood education is arranged as a purchased service and with private day care allowance. The private services are an important part of a functional service network. A private early childhood education place application is submitted directly to the chosen early childhood education place.
