Preschool education enrolment has begun
Enrolment for children starting preschool next autumn has begun in Tampere. The enrolment must be completed by 23 January 2018.
The enrolment applies to children born in 2012. The designated preschool is determined by the child’s home address and their educational path. Preschool education is arranged in city schools and day care centres, and in some private schools and day care centres.
According to the Basic Education Act, a child must take part in preschool education or other activity meeting the objectives of preschool education in the school year preceding their compulsory education. Preschool education became obligatory in Finland in 2015.
The 2018–2019 preschool year enrolment needs to be completed 8–23 January 2018 by using the electronic form on the website of the City of Tampere. Applications to private preschool education require an additional form from the organiser.
Preschool education begins Thursday 9 August 2018 at 9 a.m. Preschool education is organised during regular school hours, and the daily duration is about four hours. Preschool education is free of charge.
If a child requires supplementary activities in addition to preschool education, the enrolment to these activities is performed at the same time as the enrolment to preschool education. Supplementary activities are subject to a fee.
Guardians can choose the supplementary activity to be either part-time early childhood education or club activities (the Eppu club). The selection must be provided along with the enrolment to preschool education. Part-time early childhood education is organised in a day care centre and the club activities in a school. The staff will transport children between locations, if necessary.
A letter with further information about enrolment to preschool education has been sent to guardians of children born in 2012. The letter also includes information about the fees for the available supplementary activity options.
More information about preschool education, preschool locations, enrollment and supplementary activities is also available from day care centres and on the City of Tampere’s website.
