The application period for these places is 10–23 April 2017. The application process covers both activities organised by the City of Tampere or other service providers. Families will be notified of whether their child has been granted a place in morning and afternoon activities by 2 June 2017. Available places may also be enquired about after the application period ends.

A child may be granted a place in a group for morning and afternoon activities if the family requires the place because of the parent’s job or studies or for another special reason.

Other special reasons are compelling needs of the family or the child, and decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis. In order to refer to a special reason, the guardian must include an expert analysis or assessment on the child’s need in the application. These criteria are based on a decision by the Committee for Child and Youth Services, made on 20 November 2014. The decision does not apply to children covered by special support services.

Afternoon activities are available after school from midday until 5 p.m. Some groups also offer morning activities from 8 to 10 a.m., depending on demand.

Families may select their requirement for the services from among three options. The service fees are determined according to the selected option. In groups offering both morning and afternoon activities, the hours can be divided between the morning and the afternoon in such a way that the total number of hours does not exceed the maximum number of hours included in the service.

If the family has selected a service requirement of 1–3 hours, the fee is €70 per month (the fee for an older sibling being €60 per month). If the family has selected a service requirement of 3–4.5 hours a day, the fee is €120 per month (the fee for an older sibling being €110 per month). If the family has selected a service requirement of 4.5–6 hours a day, the fee is €140 per month (the fee for an older sibling being €120 per month).

Morning and afternoon activities organised on school premises are referred to as Eppu clubs (“Eppu-kerhot"). In these clubs, children in the 1st or 2nd grade of school share activities with preschool education-aged children. The shared activities include diverse workshop activities, shared projects and events. In addition, the day programme includes activities outdoors, rest, exercises and a snack. Schoolchildren have the possibility to do homework.

Applications should be submitted electronically wherever possible. When necessary, paper forms are available at preschool education groups and schools. The application brochure in English and the electronic application (in Finnish) are available on the City of Tampere’s webpages concerning morning and afternoon activities.

More information on the activities, places and the application process is available via e-mail from [email protected]

Vellamo daycare centre provides child care services for single parents who work in shifts and have children attending 1st or 2nd grade in school. The daycare centres of Pulmunen and Näsipuisto provide child care services in the evenings and weekends on the same grounds. Other children may be granted a place at these daycare centres upon separate social and educational grounds. To apply for a place in child care services for shift workers, contact one of the daycare centres providing such care directly. The fee for child care services for shift workers with schoolchildren is €120 per month. The daycare centre does not organise transportation to the daycare centre.
