A Warrior's Rights and Duties
The Samurai had many privileges: he could carry two swords and, when needed,
use them. He was allowed to kill a person of lower class without having to report
the event if the person in question had acted unlawfully.
Only the Samurai were allowed to use a last name, horse or palanquin,
and they had their own way of speaking, walking and dressing.
However, their duties were also onerous.
The Samurai had to act as moral role models to others,
which required strict self-discipline and adherence to the bushidô virtues:
fairness, gallantry, compassion for the weak, courtesy, honour and loyalty.
